The Zimbabwean Men’s group (Western Chapter) organised seminar on men’s well-being on Saturday 14 September 2019 at Sunshine, in Melbourne West. The event included presentations and discussions on mental health needs for Zimbabwean Men in Melbourne and African men in general.
Over 30 men attended the seminar and many expressed their satisfaction with the opportunity provided to them to learn and share knowledge and insights on mental health issues affecting them and their families.
“The men’s health and well-being seminar is a much-needed space. This is a great initiative and I can’t wait for the next session”, stated one of the attendees.
“It’s great when men come together about their wellbeing. The future is healthy”, commented another participant.
One of the organisers, Dr Godwin Masuka, a community advocate and experienced researcher reported that he was very happy to see a great deal of enthusiasm and great comments from various people in the community about the seminar. “Good to see that the seminar was well received by the intended recipients. This is a great start to a whole lot of initiatives lined up to promote health and wellbeing in our community”.
The seminar was organised with the aim to raise awareness, lead and bring respectful and culturally responsive conversations on a range of issues pertinent to the communities.
